The MacArthur Park reference comes from my band nerd days at Eastwood High School in the mid ’70′s. We were the Marching Trooper Band. We dressed in Civil War Union uniforms. Which is odd considering Texas was part of the Confederacy. I played french horn. We were a very good. Straight 1′s in competition. Our band director, John Farone, was excellent. He was a master of psychological manipulation in order to get us to play and perform to our potential. He inspired me to want to become a band director. Until I realized I was as good a musician as someone with no natural musical ability could be. And as Mr. Farone would say, “That wasn’t good enough.”
