Boris and Natasha Go Fa-Boom

Over the Hedge

I wondered if there ever were such things as round bombs with fuses.  I mean, other than cartoons.  And here’s what I found out…

Hand thrown or cannon fired cylindrical mortars filled with gunpowder or a flammable substance were used as long ago as the 16th century.  The length of the fuse was adjusted to ensure that the mortar exploded above the battlefield so that it rained shrapnel on the enemy.

And now you know.

In the Fearless Leader We Trust

Over the Hedge

I have to write a weeks worth of strips today.  I’m thinking RJ, Verne and Hammy’s minds wandering would be a nice theme.  Where do they go?  What happens when they get there?  What do the character’s bodies do while they’re gone?

This strip just writes itself.

The One Where Hammy Plays Smoke on the Water on the Kazoo

Over the Hedge

The song with the easiest guitar lick to play ever, actually had lyrics too.   I know!  I was surprised too!  Now I’m really curious who Funky Claude was.

Smoke on the Water by Deep Purple.

We all came out to Montreux
On the Lake Geneva shoreline
To make records with a mobile
We didn’t have much time
Frank Zappa and the Mothers
Were at the best place around
But some stupid with a flare gun
Burned the place to the ground
Smoke on the water, a fire in the sky, smoke on the water

They burned down the gamblin’ house,
It died with an awful sound
and Funky Claude was running in and out
Pulling kids out the ground
When it all was over
We had to find another place
But Swiss time was running out
It seemed that we would lose the race
Smoke on the water, a fire in the sky, smoke on the water

We ended up at the Grand Hotel
It was empty cold and bare
But with the Rolling truck Stones thing just outside
Making our music there
With a few red lights and a few old beds
We make a place to sweat
No matter what we get out of this
I know, I know we’ll never forget
Smoke on the water, a fire in the sky ,smoke on the water

From songfacts.com:

This is about a fire in the Casino at Montreux, Switzerland. The band was going to record Machine Head there right after a Frank Zappa concert, but someone fired a flare gun at the ceiling which set the place on fire. The band was relocated to another hotel and recorded the album in the Rolling Stones mobile studio. See a photo of the fire in Song Images.

And Funky Claude was Claude Nobs a co-founder of the Montreux Jazz Festival.  He rescued a few people from the fire.

Squirrel vs. Bazooka

Over the Hedge

And it’s the plot that never ends.  It just goes on and on my friends.  This cartoonist started writing it, not knowing how it ends and he’ll continue writing it forever just because…  And it’s the plot that never ends….
