We went a Texas summer a few years back without air-conditioning. Couldn’t afford a repair. It was hot, but with open windows and a mostly steady breeze we survived. I wouldn’t want to do it again, but it wasn’t the end of the world.
You get used to it. You become comfortable with being uncomfortable.
And when we got the AC back the next year it was like we had become able to afford decadent luxury known only to the privileged elite. We appreciated what we’d been missing.
