    Well, honestly, I think political correctness just translates to being polite, BUT a story is a story, AND we owe it to the original author of The Night Before Christmas to honor HIS words, mice and louses not withstanding. After all, they got credit as characters in the book! (Smiley Face here)

    If only Verne didn’t crack under criticism, he might have remembered that mice are (usually) nocturnal, and this verse is describing a magical hour when everyone was quiet at the same time.
