I wondered if there ever were such things as round bombs with fuses.  I mean, other than cartoons.  And here’s what I found out…

Hand thrown or cannon fired cylindrical mortars filled with gunpowder or a flammable substance were used as long ago as the 16th century.  The length of the fuse was adjusted to ensure that the mortar exploded above the battlefield so that it rained shrapnel on the enemy.

And now you know.

We got to this Hedge perfect storyline as quick as we could given our lead times.  Yeah, it’s dated, but it’s fun kind of dated.
