Top Five Things Raccoons Do
4. Eat more
3. Eat even more.
Had a long night last night. Our pittie Jack got bit by a rattlesnake. At this point, it looks like he’ll be fine, but it will still take a couple more days to be sure. He got bit on the foreleg about midnight last night. We took him to the vet emergency clinic where he spent the night on pain meds and an IV drip to keep him hydrated and his kidneys functioning. Rattlesnake venom mostly attacks blood clotting. Jack’s blood tests have showed decent, though hampered, clotting. Fortunately, his condition so far hasn’t warranted anti-venom (at $800/dose). His leg and chest are grossly swollen. He’ll probably have a good bit of tissue necrosis around the bite area.
Jack’s taking it all like a trooper. Tail still wagging. Eyes bright. I think he’ll pull through. But, just in case, a kind thought to the diety of your choice wouldn’t hurt.
